Avatar is an amazing 3D movie. It was designed for 3D and the whole movie is very well done. This is not one of those 3D as an after thought movies.
As someone with strabismus, the best points include the myriad of scenes in nature. Birds and other unique creatures slowly floating through the air provide amazing effects and the trees are incredible. Those slow moving aspects definitely are perfect for beginners.
There is quite a bit of violence and it is a little scary so I wouldn’t recommend it for young kids.
Favorite 3D Effects
The entire movie has effects that come out of the screen in almost every scene.
Some of these items are fast moving like arrows, fire or scary animals, these effects aren’t as easy to see because they are so fast.
But there are plenty of scenes that are built in a way that allows the viewer to appreciate the depth in a forest and you can truly see the space between the branches, leaves and brightly colored animals.
There are seeds from the tree of souls that fill up the entire room in one scene and it is breathtaking. The whole movie is worth watching for those incredible scenes.
Hands down, the best part of the movie (as far as 3D goes) is when they are visiting the Hallelujah Mountains. They are basically floating islands and as the characters fly through, you truly feel like you are in the scene. It is so real.
Cons
The only cons would have to be that between the violence and the half-naked characters. I’m a little uneasy about watching with my kids. It is a great movie, even if it is a little long. I have watched it multiple times and it never disappoints.
Pros
The cinematography is stunning and so well done. The producers used 3D to immerse the viewer in the world of Pandora and you truly feel like you are there.
So much attention was paid to the smallest details. This movie can be used as an exercise to build binocular vision and depth perception. The design makes it easier to engage both eyes together.
Conclusion
Avatar is a movie that should be in every 3D collection. It is well done, entertaining and beautiful! Let me know how you like it and definitely check out Avatar 2.
