“Do my eyes work together?” was a question I hadn’t given much thought to until recent years.
Even though I was born with a severe strabismus and I had a noticeable eye turn, I thought my vision was really quite good because I didn’t need glasses.
Driving at night was dangerous and I avoided it at all costs, but it hadn’t crossed my mind that it could be because my eyes weren’t coordinating together.
I was always a very slow reader and my comprehension was on a 6th grade level, but that was just me. I was good at math, you can’t have it all, right? Or can you?
I remember those first few months of learning that my eyes were most definitely not working together. In fact, they were fighting each other.
And their “not working together” was wreaking havoc on my entire world.
Learning this for the first time turned my world upside down and it was not easy, but it also gave me so many answers. I finally understood why certain tasks and subjects seemed so much more difficult for me than others.
Best of all, I found a solution. I learned to train my brain to use both eyes and my life has changed for the better.
